Work

A closer look at the work

Some of what I have on at the moment, and a few things I have built for myself. The client ones are described without naming anyone, because that is their call rather than mine.

Construction  ·  In build

A building firm that ran on paper

Two websites built and hosted, both live. Now an app for the whole firm. It started with the quality checks and the health and safety paperwork that had to be filled in on site and typed up later, and it has grown well past that. It is on its way to becoming a product of its own.

A job recorded on site appears in the office straight away On the job no paper, no re-typing straight away In the office

Over 100 staff, coming off paper.

Insurance broking  ·  In build

A brokerage buried in renewal paperwork

Renewal documents land every working day, and in a big batch twice a month. Every one gets retyped by hand. What I am building replaces that with four steps:

  1. A renewal document lands
  2. It gets read, not retyped
  3. The client email is waiting in their drafts
  4. A broker presses send. Nothing goes without that.

Around ten hours a month of retyping, on its way off their desk.

Real-estate media  ·  In scoping

A property media company whose systems don't talk

Four systems that don't pass anything to each other, so a person moves the work between them by hand every day. Joining them up is the job. Invoicing is where the hours are.

Four separate systems joined up, so invoicing and reporting run off what is already there System System System System joined up once, properly Invoicing off what is there The numbers no one to ask

Eight to ten hours a month on invoicing alone, by their own count.

Events  ·  Live product

A job for one client that became a product

An innovation agency needed founders and investors matched and scheduled across a two-day summit, and advisor slots booked on the spot at another event. Both ran on software rather than a spreadsheet and a whiteboard. It is now Time Tango, a tool any event can use, and I am still building on it.

Day two  ·  Room 4

Live
  • 1:00 pm Founder meets investor Booked
  • 1:20 pm Founder meets investor Booked
  • 1:40 pm Open Waitlist
  • 2:00 pm Attendee meets advisor Booked

Nobody emailed anybody to make this happen.

timetango.app

Matching and scheduling handled by software, not a spreadsheet and a whiteboard.

My own

Things I have built for myself

Not client work, and no one paid for them. It is where a fair bit of the practice happens.

Something here look like your problem?

Half an hour, free, no pitch. If I do not think I am the right answer for you I will say so.
